Overdraft Opt-In Form

  • Recent changes in federal regulation are requiring us to amend our Overdraft Advantage program, specifically the way we currently process debit and ATM card transactions that may overdraw your account. Complete the opt-in form below in order to continue overdraft protection on your ATM/debit card. Please note that this opt-in only affects accounts that have qualified for our Overdraft Advantage program.

By opting-in, you may prevent declined transactions in stores, online, and at ATMs. Please list all account numbers that you would like included. More information about overdrafts is stated at the end of this notice as mandated by the federal government.

Opting-in has no additional costs. Our program does not have any added fees, and our normal insufficient fees apply whether you have a paid or rejected overdraft. Finally, our program gives you options and flexibility in emergency situations when you need access to cash.

If you have not yet opted-in, debit and ATM card transactions that may overdraw your account will be rejected at the time of the transaction. If you have any questions about this process, or how these changes will affect your account, please contact the Account Servicing Department at 978.452.1300.

What You Need to Know about Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

We have standard overdraft practices that come with your checking account.

We offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account or a line of credit attached to your checking account.

This notice explains our standard overdraft practices which we refer to as Overdraft Advantage.

What are the standard overdraft practices that may come with my account?

If you qualify, we do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

    • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
    • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to (see below):

    • ATM transactions
    • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. We do so in anticipation of you making a deposit immediately to bring your account to a positive balance.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if The Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank pays my overdraft?

    Under our standard overdraft practices:

    • We will charge you a fee of $35 each time we pay an overdraft.
    • A maximum of six (6) overdraft fees can be charged per day.
