Lowell Five Bank recaps 2018 employee charitable giving program results and announces 2019 award recipients

Tewksbury, MA – Lowell Five Bank Employee Charitable Giving Committee announced that in 2018, Lowell Five Bank Employees donated over $31,000 to the following employee-chosen local charities: Lowell Humane Society, Merrimack Valley Hospice, The Andrew J. Zabierek Foundation, and Lucy’s Love Bus. The awarded funds consisted of over $15,000 in voluntary weekly pledges from the individual employees who participate in the program, matched equally by Lowell Five Bank.

The Lowell Five Bank Employee Charitable Giving Committee also announced the four local charitable organization chosen to be the recipients of a 2019 Quarterly Charitable Giving Award. The following charities will be the recipients of the 2019 Charitable Giving Program:

  • First Quarter 2019: Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) at Nevins Farm
  • Second Quarter 2019: Merrimack Valley Hospice
  • Third Quarter 2019: The Wish Project
  • Fourth Quarter 2019: Boys and Girls Club of Lowell

In early 2016, Lowell Five Bank elected to place decision-making of where and how voluntary individual employee payroll-deducted charitable giving funds are distributed, into the hands of Lowell Five Employees. The Employee Charitable Giving Committee was created and consists of individuals from across the Bank. Each year, ECGC Committee members collect nominations from co-workers of local charitable organizations within the communities the Bank serves, whose mission and work the employee supports. From this list of candidates, the ECGC Committee holds two votes, allowing all Lowell Five employees to narrow the selection to the top ten, and then to the final four. The winning charities will receive, in turn, the proceeds of the Charitable Giving Program Donations for a designated quarter, equally matched by the Bank, thereby doubling the donation amount.

According to Lowell Five Bank President and Chief Executive Officer, David Wallace, “Giving back to the communities we serve is the essence of what it means to be a community bank. Our employees and customers live and work in the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire and we want to see our communities thrive. We encourage our employees to be active within their communities. I am proud of our employees’ involvement in the Employee Charitable Giving Program and for all of their efforts to make a positive impact. It’s really what Lowell Five Bank is all about.”
