Donald MacLaren, Sr. is a life-long bowler who always had an interest in bringing an entertainment venue to his hometown of Tewksbury, MA where his family has lived for generations. Don Sr. and his son Don Jr. turned that dream into reality.
That vision, with the help of Lowell Five, turned into Wamesit Lanes, a family-friendly luxury bowling, dining and entertainment center, featuring both ten pin and candlepin bowling, a full-service restaurant and bar, an arcade, golf simulators and more. Built by local contractors, the business celebrated its opening in November 2015.
“Lowell Five went to bat for us. They stood by their word and went the distance with us to build something that every family can enjoy.” Don MacLaren
The 45,000-square-foot entertainment venue, which can hold up to 1,000 people, is located on Route 38 in a highly visible spot near the town line, bringing new life to the area. “It is the gateway to the community, so to speak, when you’re coming into town right off the highway,” Tewksbury Manager Richard Montuori told the Lowell Sun. “It’s the type of facility that’s going to attract people to the community and hopefully there will be spillover – an indirect benefit to others.”
A partner who goes to bat for you
The MacLarens looked for a partnership with local banks and were happy they chose Lowell Five. Don, Sr said, “Lowell Five were the first ones to go to bat for us. They stood by us and said, ‘it’s going to be a lot of work but we’ll exhaust all options. They stood by their word and went the distance with us to build something that every family can enjoy.”
The MacLarens appreciated the team approach and culture at Lowell Five, and quickly learned that the Bank is committed to the local community. Equally as important was the ease of financing the $13 million project.
The father and son team credit Mark Katimy, Vice President, with pulling it all together, and going above and beyond. “I had more emails and conversations with him than you would believe. He was responsive, committed, thorough, trusting, and most of all, a believer.”
“Nobody could ever touch what they offered us. My family and I will be forever grateful for what Lowell Five was able to do for us. They literally made a dream come true!”
